I worry sometimes that they aren't as good as they could be, that the humor isn't always tight, that they aren't totally inspired. Then I remind myself that I just started this thing last month and I'm not going to be Al Franken tomorrow. The medium has a lot of limitations (which, in a lot of ways, will ultimately be good), but, even so, I've already put up a gem or two (if I do say so myself - don't mind me: I'm giving myself a pep talk in public here). They will keep getting better. I commit this to you. I'm in this for the long haul. Of course, on-line, the long haul isn't all that long. One of my favorite sites of all times is Exploding Dog. The creator makes these little drawings on his computer. They are basically stick figures that do a great job of humorously illustrating something in contrast or within the idea encapsulated by his title. It's an extremely simple site, but I think a lot of people really like it. He's been doing it for six years now. His drawings have come a long way (without ever really leaving the basic concept of stick figures and recurring icons). In fact, this morning, to encourage myself in the Homily making process, I decided to check out his very first drawing on the site. Here it is. If he can go from that to eventually get invited to art parties at South by Southwest, I can make something out of my Homilies. Hell, I had the idea for my homilies before Exploding Dog even got launched, so clearly it's an idea that means something to me and is worth exploring. Hang with me, satire fans. Before long, you'll be able to say, "Brady Russell? Shit! I was listening to him long before Weezer put that outtake on their record." It's a process, and the process is the reason to do it. Check. Party on, Wayne. Party on, Garth.
